do they make a short shifter that would fit an '84 gs?

I believe there is also a Miata shifter that fits like stock.

DO A SEARCH I POSTED THIS BEFORE I FOUND A MIATA SHIFTER ON EBAY FOR 50 BUCKS

The mazdatrix one is expensive new, but is well worth it. Other than that, You can make one out a second gen shifter. A little fab work is required.

FB, FC shifters are basically the same, particularly on the pivot distance.

ReSpeed sells a short shifter.
