shock abosorbers for bumpers

i was wondering if you could tuck your bumps close by any chance by drilling a hole in the shock absorber for the bumpers and pushing them closer the the body for a more sleek look i havnt really looked at it, but i did it on my friends 80's bmw with the metal bumpers and it looked alot better with them tucked in a little
