I have an 83 gsl and the shifter is so loose it seems like its just going to fall out. I have two spare trannies and both of them are loose as well and one only has 60k on it. I looked at mazdatrix website and they dont seem to sell bushes for an 83. What are my options? also, my car doesnt have a shifter boot, where can i get one?

no one has any idea? i know that all the 83 7's have had to atleast at one point had a limp sloppy shifter...

I put in a short shifter kit from mazdatrirx. I also noticed that the spring in there was broken.

I never replaced it don;t even know if you can get a new one? so mine has a little slop but not as noticable with the short shifter.

Nearly half of the 7s I've owned or worked on have had this neutral return spring broken. Too bad it isn't the other one that breaks, this one is a 3 minnow tour.

there's 2 bushings for the shifter, the one that goes on top of the larger ball as it mounts in the tower, and the one that snaps onto the smaller ball at the bottom. not sure what yr, might be the 83, but one has the larger ball at the bottom the doesn't require the use of the bushing for the lower ball. can't be sure of the cause as i've never experienced this particular problem.

You're probably too young to put the clues together to understand the reference or it's implied meaning.

I just picked this up from the local Mazda dealer today for $16. It's supposed to be a "kit" but it only came with the upper bushing. Strange. Luckily my lower bushing appears to be in okay condition it's the upper that's mangled.

1 - Shim, Adjust
1 - Washer, Wave
1 - Bush, Change
1 - Gasket (which I didn't need but came with the "kit")
