Shifter Issue

I have an 84 SCCA ITA car. The shifter shifts ok, but I find I miss the 2 to 3 shift and sometimes instead of going into 4th it wants to go back into 2nd. Shifter feel is very vauge.
The question is, (before I take everything apart) do any of you have any idea what might be wrong? Could it be as simple as a shifter bushing? Or worn linkage?

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

It could be. You could also try a torque brace.

I notice that sometimes I can't shift into 3rd gear when I shift quickly. Where can I get a torque brace for my FB?

Well I pulled the troubleshooting guide, this is what is says.
Probable cause:

Bent change rod
No grease in trans controll system
Insufficient oil
Derioration of oil quality
Wear or play of shift fork or shift rod
Wear of synchronizer ring
Wear of Synchronizer ring and cone of gear ????
Excessive longitudinal play of gears
Wear of bearing
Wear of Syncronizer key spring
Improper disengagement of clutch

Well I hope it's not internal to the transmission. I'm going to tear into it tomorow.

I don't think I can run a torque brace in SCCA ITA class.
