Shifter Grease.........?

Hey

Looked at my tranny from above today as I cleaned the shifter area..........

Noticed that the shifter and the tranny are bone dry........should this area have any lubrication?

If so...what should be used........

Are you talking about where the shifter meet the transmission, you need to put in about 1 table spoon of gear oil rated for the transmission.

If you are talking about the shift fork-slave cylinder, then a dab of wheel bearing grease.

After taking the shifter out of the tranny and looking in its dry...so where the smaller ball of the shifter clicks into the small spring of the tranny...........if I am saying that right....

Usually, you fill the shifter housing reservoir with a bit of gear oil. Upon the recommendation of Rob Golden at Pineapple Racing, I've been using a healthy dab of bearing grease instead. Much less messy/smelly and it's worked great for me for years. I use Royal Purple synthetic bearing grease, but any should do. Obviously, the tranny itself requires gear oil. For that, I also use Royal Purple, but, again, any quality GL4/GL5 gear oil should work.

I also use grease in the shifter box.It stopped the slow leak of oil from the box(obviously),and it killed the common "short shifter buzz" so many people complain about.

I filled the filled it right up to the level of the keeper spring with Royal Purple after I installed a new shifter bushing kit. Shifts nice and smooth.
