Smile Shifter bushings for a SA (79/80)

I'm sure most of you know, but just a heads up. I recently replaced all the bushings for the shifter on my 79'. I followed the steps that mazdatrix have on their site, but there's one thing they don't mention. The shifter housing is not separated from transmission on the SA's like it is on the FB's. Mazdatrix suggests to add gear oil into the shifter housing up until the shifter rod. Apparently when I added the gear oil in there I put too much so after driving it for about 25 minutes, I noticed smoke coming out from the back. I pulled over and looked underneath and saw some oil that had burned on my exhaust. I guess the overfill caused the extra oil to come out from a drain from the transmission maybe? Anyways the next day I went and unscrewed the side bolt that's is square shaped and let the excess transmission oil drain out until it stopped draining. So I suggest when you decide to change the shifter bushings on your SA, don't bother adding the gear oil through the shifter housing just make sure you either change your transmission oil or make sure your transmission oil is full from underneath. It's hard to tell from the shifter housing if there's enough oil in that area and mazdatrix doesn't mention that the 79/80 housings are not separated from the transmission.
Hope this helped.

The transmission doesn't have an overfill drain that is open. It has a plug on the side of the trans. It probably leaked from the top where the shifter goes. If you didn't seal it then that's where it leaked from.

Yup, you fill to the edge of the fill hole, like filling a diff, then plug it up. You can add the oil
from the top but you have to be sure to make sure its not overfilled by doing what you did.

Oh I see. Well I cleaned up whatever I can reach from underneath. I have to clean the top where the shifter is. But it's been clean underneath ever since I drained the excess.

Take out the fill plug, wait for the excess to all come out. Install fill plug. Done.
