Anyways, I'll wait for Manntis to chime in with an absolute answer to this.

Yeah i'm not blaming anyone, it's obvious the product is outsourced so quality control takes on a difficult role. Mine came from Fairfax, VA.. Only the boot was in the bag.
The boot will work but only after I dye the white threads black, tie the loose ends on the stiching and properly mount the boot without any apparent mounting points or fixtures... It was not what I was expecting though...(But it's not a HUGE deal).. I'm simply letting folks know what I received.
The guy I bought the car from had a nice black Momo leather shift boot, triple stiched, cut to fit with clips around the shifter console opening to keep it on. The bottom of the boot overhung the clips hiding them from view..That was NICE..(Nice and expensive too!-He kept that one!)

I bought a couple leather boots (one for an '82 and one for an '87) from http://brfoundation.com/rotaryaccessories/ a while back and they are very nicely made. He keeps black in stock most of the time, and will do custom colors as well.
He also does e-brake boots, but I passed on those.

I got my shift boot from manntis as well. I selected the black one and it did come with white stitching. I would have liked all black but it looks fine.
My interior is brown as well, and it looks great with it. My friends keep saying its the nicest looking thing on my car.

I'm surprised no one has talked about what I did when all my little pins were broken.
This is cheap and effective! Get posterboard and cut into a shape so that you have fins that will stick under the "ledge" underneath the shifter boot and plastic cover. Then punch holes in the posterboard matching where the pins would go into the rubber boot. Then thread some fishing string through the posterboard and boot. Now insert the fins under the "ledges" so that they will not come out or move around that much. Now put the plastic cover back on and voila! The rubber stays under the plastic cover and looks normal!
(If you have trouble picturing this, I'll post pics--just lemme know!)

I know the white string shows--i am gonna change to fishing string and also make the string a lot tighter (it is rahter loose right now). When I do that, it should look much better

I made my own shift boot for my blue RX4 out of navy blue leather. It's a one-piece design, so there is only one stitched seam up the side. I'll try to get a picture posted.
BTW, turning the shift **** to the right at a slight angle is ergonomically correct.
