Shift Light

Does anyone use a shift light? how well do they work? do they suck? and are they hard to install? The final question is what RPM do you have them set at.

Imho the only need for a shift light is:

1. You are deaf and can't hear the buzzer.

2. You have modified the powerband of the engine to a higher rpm range and have disabled the buzzer.

Not all 7's came with a buzzer.

When I get mine, it'll be around 7200 RPM.

If you're creative enough you can replace the buzzer with a homemade shiftlite. There's also a pot behind the dash that allows you to adjust the rpm.

I have a shift light, but for me it's more so that i don't over rev the engine when i'm autoxing (since my attention is towards the curves and not the tach). I got a autometer light without tach, works pretty good. Make sure to ground it well, or else you'll get some weird results...

really easy to install, three wires, 1 switched power, 1 ground, and 1 to the negative side of the trailing coil, i mounted it onto the steering column plastic cover (didn't want to mount to the dash to aviod attention). I'll try to get some pics later...

oh yeah, my car never had a buzzer, the only thing i hear is the coolant level warning when i'm taking tight turns...

That's weird. All Rx7's were suppose to have a buzzer. It's been around since the rx2/3.

Not Really. Just 3 or 4 wires usually.

8200 RPM. I'll probably bring it down to 7900 though.

shift light

Here are the pics of my shift light, Mine has a 7.0 pill in it, which means it comes on at 7k, it's a stock rebuilt motor so i'm not comfortable reving it much higher.

I was wondering why I had a little metal nub to the left of my steering wheel. I never knew until I seen that picture. It's a choke.
