In my experience, belts squeel cause they are slipping on a pulley. The pulley has an excessive load or drag and the belt slips and squeels. Lubricating the slip will stop the squeel for a while but won't permanently fix it.

I had the same problem the other guy mentioned about the water pump going out. The bearing was starting to seize up and the belt started to squeel and my coolant temp went up. I guess this could happen to any other pulley (even an idler).

Good luck fixing the problem, thats the fun of working on our own cars.

Glad it worked for you. I'm going to try the 3L220 belt and a different fan to cure my squeal above 5k RPM. I'll go electric soon.

Nice. I hadn't checked out your site before or I would have guessed.. My bad

I'm not having much luck tracking down a dual sheave pully here in New Zealand so one of yours might be the answer. Any idea how much you'd want for shipping to New Zealand Manntis?

probably a sizeable sum. It's shipped direct from my supplier to you, but that's still USA --> NZ

My waterpump got worse today. Squealing at 5k (or maybe lower now) and there's a new sound at idle. It sounds like the waterpump bearings. I'm going to try the WD40 trick I mentioned earlier in this thread.
