she quit at 100mph!

So I was taking my car out for the last romp before I put her away. I hit a long straight road near my house and I got her up to 100mph and let off. As soon as I let off she just shuttered real bad and stalled. I went to start it back up but she wouldn't stay running unless I kept my foot on the gas. Even then she ran really rough. I managed somehow keep her running till i got to a parking lot. I let her sit for 30 mins and I went to start it again. It ran fine like nothing happened. During the warmer months I speed alot but it's never done this before. Any input guys? I'm stumped...thanks
Joe

Starving for fuel?

Check your filters, then the pump output.A run through the higher gears will tax the pumps ability to keep up with fuel demands since the top gears tend to be long, drawn out and full throttle to boot.

Yep, and chances are you sucked up debris from the tank into the filters. Sometimes after sitting, the fuel will flow backwards through the system and carry that debris back to the tank, waiting to get sucked up again. When you change your filter, you might wish to drain and flush the tank too, then fill it up and add Sta-Bil for storage, starting it occassionaly.

This was God telling you to slow your *** down....

But yeah, new fuel filter and you'll be back to breaking the law in no time at all.

definatly make sure you check or replace you fuel filter. running the engine lean can destroy it pretty quick. as trochoid mentioned, a tank flush is reccomended. things will be a little eaiser if you have an 84-85 due to the drain plg at the bottom of the tank. if not just remove the hard lines from the top of the tank and empty your flush through the top of the trank where the hard lines screw in.
