She Gave Up.

5:15 this morning. I'm on the interstate, cars humming along quite nicely. Now realize, I only got into rotaries at the beginning of the year and have never felt an apex seal let go, but I am no longer a blown apex seal virgin. That's right. It happened instantly, had it been sex, there would have been no foreplay before the event, this was rape. One second it ran great the next second I was having flashbacks of riding a John Deer yard tractor. With half the power. I am not angry, (just slightly depressed), as I was going to stuff a T2 in it around April, I guess I just have to advance my timeline. Time on the clock...213,668 miles. I guess rotaries are unreliable. (add gobs of sarcasm) Just letting you guys know.

That is a feeling you will never forget. But it looks like it had a nice long life.

Sorry.

Yep.

I've got a T2 here that I've been preparing for an REPU installation. It could just as easily go into a 1st gen. It's actually quite fun to do a swap like this. Have fun breathing new life into your well aged 7.

And then the porsce alternator goes out. Cold weather in Georgia is killing my cars. Let's see what it does to the Jeep.

Are you sure it's an apex seal. I burned out a distributor cap so that only one rotor was getting spark and it felt similar to your description.

100% sure. Pulled the spark plug, zero compression during turnover on rear rotor.

Reach something inside the plug hole and see if you can feel the apex slot. It's gotta be 3mm or smaller. A popsicle stick is good to use.

I promise you, thats not even necessary. The front rotor goes, pish, pish, pish, pish.nice and strong. The second rotor makes absolutely no noise. What more is there?

have yet to experience losing an apex seal...but I'm dropping a newly rebuilt 12at fresh up with seals so hopefully (fingers crossed) I won't have to experience rotary rape for some time!

I rebuilt two R5 13Bs when their apex seals were right at spec or below. Spec is 7.00mm and they were like 6.99 or something. I hope to be able to catch all my engines in time.

After you do the T2 swap, contact silverrotor to get a FD alternator that will work on your T2 motor. It has 100 amps of output compared to the T2 alternator that only puts out like 60 amps.
