She is alive but got problems
Hi all,
Greetings!
Although I visit this forum everyday, however, I rare posted any message.
Maybe some of you remember I have a 85 GS with 110000 miles, and the seal blew the second month I got it last summer. I just finished putting in another used engine, but still got some problems, and hoping some of you can give me some advise.
1) oil leak: The project were finished two weeks ago and there were no oil leak after the installation, the engine came with new front and rare seals and oil pan gasket installed by the seller. Now, I notice it has been developing an oil leak around the rare of the oil pan and the drain plug, and it is getting worse and worse day by day. BTW, the top of the engine is dry and clean.
I am adding MMO in both fuel and engine oil, which is Castro GTX 10 40 for high mile engine (it is cold here in MN). I torqued down the oil pan a bit today, but didn't seem to help much, what should I do next, what could be the problem?
2) Power: The car was running rich after the installation, today I played with a screw on the carb and seemed help on the smell and it runs a bit smoother and idles at about 1000 rpm. But when I floor it, it had no power at all, is this normal, or anything related to the carb or? After the change, when I started the car cold, and the rpm below 1000, then if I give it gas, it seemed wanted to die (never happened before), is this a problem with my accelerator pump or? I do notice it is wet around the accelerator pump area(fuel leak?). How should I ensure correct timing as well?
Last thing: when I try to rev up the engine, it sounds fine, but I I let it off suddenly, it introduces a rough vibration along with some gurgling (maybe) from the exaust, what is the cause of this? Will rats nest removal help?
Any input would be appreciated, thanks all!
Xiaonan

1) Tighten the oil pan a little bit. Not much though, see if that helps.
2) That really sounds like an accelerator pump problem.
3) Check for vacuum leaks. Don't remove the rats nest until everything else is ok. You don't want to introduce new problems before fixing old ones.

I am going school in St Cloud. I am planning on install (another) new oil pan gasket, removing the rats nest and tune up the car during spring break. Can someone asure me that it is not the rear seal that is leaking?
I floored the car when I was driving and it did not have any power at all, it only feel like 50 Horse. I am not sure about my timing either though.
BTW, there is another tube from a Reservoir on passanger side below the windshield washer bottle, I don't know where it belongs, on the reservior it says "sub zero fluid" and has a pump on it. Anyone can tell me? Thanks!

First, make sure your AP is adjusted properly. See if this makes sense; ask Rx7Carl if it doesn't. There are several threads here and at www.mazspeed.com that talk about accelerator pump adjustments and modifications. You'll also want to make sure the weights and check ***** in the nozzle and above the AP are there and not gummed up.

Next, check this out about the backup return spring. May have something to do with the no power problem.

The subzero can be yanked and tossed away. Chances are the pump is no longer functional anyway. Just make sure to cap the carb port the line from the unit goes into.
