Positioning is not that critical, it is, but you just have to line up the bottom of the port with the bottom of the template. When porting the intake port you dont touch the bottom of the intake port. And the Exhaust port doesnt need a template at all. There is a stock template in the housing. The steel colar, just open the exhaust port as big as you can with out eating away any steel!

I had someone mark my housings, back in the day by eye and a permenant marker and that **** screamed ! ! !

I know I have a 13B bridge exhaust template but like it was said earlier it's curved and a scan won't help. my friend has the intake templates.

i dont like the idea personally. id rather get some templates from RB , mazdatrix, or the judge, and grind them out myself.

30 bucks for a template is not a bad price.

Talking

Like I have said before, the exhaust is opened as big as possible with out cutting into the metal sleeve!

I will shortly have a template for a monster street port. My boy says to go halfway (1/16") on the top side for the street. This is for a big turbo on the track? I think I will go all the way? All you neeed to do to line up is line the bottom edge of the template to the bottom edge of the stock edge.

Wow, this has gotten old...but it will work

I started this a couple years ago and I still think it will work. I had planned on using scanned images, but now that I have moved into the 21 century I have a better idea. We will simpley take a digital photo of the side housings (or rotor housings) with a ruler in the shot. When we print the photo we will just have to make sure that the rule in the image is the right size. We wil also use the dowel pin hole to line up the images.

I will try this tomorrow night and post a digital photo of a side housing to see if it will work.

Here is an example

This is a digital photo of a stock port that if printed to scale could be used as a template. Simply print to scale by making sure that the ruler in the image you print is the same as a regular ruler. Then transfer your printed image to a sheet of aluminum.

I am still working on a simple way to do the exhausts port.

So, what do you think?

I think the ruler needs to be sitting flat on the face of the block near the port, and the photo needs to be taken from directly above, facing 90 degrees to the horizontal so there arent any distortion effects.

I still reckon best way is to just buy some proper templates :P

I tried it by the dowl holes, but then the image is larger than can be printed on 8" by 11" paper.

You're not going to be able to do that without getting distortion, even if you're directly above the port. I'll bet that if you check the scale in the picture, the outer units are longer than the ones at the center of the picture. Scanning is a better idea.

I will give that a try and check the scale of the last photo. I like the idea of scanning better myself, but I thought a digital photo would make the process easy for a larger number of folks.

I agree, techically there are problems. The cost of buying one is so low as to be minimal against the risk.

Another point is, what are you going to copy? Street port is a generic term, and I have seen several versions depending on different views and required end result. I suggest designing your own based on an understanding of what is the technical purpose. Otherwise it could be a case of the dumb following the blind.
