SERPENTINE BELT for a 12a ?

Does anyone out there know if there is a serpentine belt setup available for the 12a? My alternator belt breaks at least once every two weeks. It is soooo bad I have to carry a spare behind the seat. I have considered the double sheeve due too running in the higher rpm range. Before I do that I want to eliminate any other possibilites. Any suggestions are welcome if there is not a serpentine available.

Check your alignment, I would bet you have a pulley out of square, or a bearing is bad.

Alignment checks out okay as well as the bearings. That was the first thing I did. I am pretty aggressive and run the motor pretty hard. I t generally only does it above 7k rpms. My rpms have increased with my mods to redline at about 8500. That is why I am considering the double sheeve because it seems more like belt slippage than alignment.

I had the same problem on the racecar... and went to a smaller belt and that eliminated the problem...

Anyone have any pics of the serpentine conversion on the car???

$412.00AUD (inc GST) <---- how much is that in USD? I kinda like this one better because it has the "grooves" (for the lack of a better word)...

yuk!

why would anybody buy this type of belt system? waste of money if you ask me.. $20.00 for a double belt alt pulley and thats all you will ever need!!
also, you wont have to worry about your alternator not charging enough at low rpm's too ..the problem with most aftermarket pulley kits... these companies should let pepole know the aftermarket pulley kits are for race use only...

Are you absolutely sure? As mentioned, this is the only real reason the belt could keep breaking. Are you sure its not just crappy belts? Where do you get your belts? I know that the belt I got from Canadian Tire (Canada's autozone equivelent), and it stretched enough in the first 2 weeks that it would constantly slip on the alternator, and thats with the alternator adjusted all the way out.

hey, I just bought rotary performance's dual belt alt. pulley, but had a question-

how do you take the old pully off? I can't find a way to stop it from turning with the ratchet.

(sorry for the thread jack)

I put some of the best belts on this thing and they still break. The only difference is they last a little longer than the cheap ones. I am really not concerned with breaking the belts at this point because I want to switch to a serpentine setup or double belt setup Which would be beter for a street application though ??

Use Impact To Take The Nut Off Of The Alt. It Works Even With The Alt. Already Off.

Bad boys is right. What do I need to do to get my hands on one of those in blue ? My motor compartment is blue, silver and red so that would make a very nice addition to it.

Just wanted to let everyone know. The rotor shaped pulleys are no longer in stock and no plans for further production.

double belt pulley works the best and this place has tons of them in stock and isn't going to stop making them anytime soon... here is the link
