Serious problem after replacing clutch slave cylinder.
So, my clutch slave cylinder had been leaking for a while, and on Thursday it completely went out and the pedal wouldn't come off the floor. No big deal, I replaced the slave cylinder and the hydraulic hose that connects to it, bled the clutch system and all was good. Until about an hour ago. I was going out and I came up to a stop. Push pedal down - won't come up off floor. After a little digging around, I found that the rod had gone though the plate that it's supposed to go to. Now it's stuck in there, and I have no clue what to do.

Crude drawing.
So the slave cylinder has a rod that sits in a bowl on the transmission, The bowl is the shift fork/plate? Either way it went through it.
Now what?

Okay, well, The rod has two ends. One thats big and one that is narrow. I didn't get a chance to look at the old one so I went with the big end inside the sleeve against the piston cup and the narrow end in the plate. Is the big end supposed to go on the plate, or in the sleeve?
The original one fell out of the car when I took the slave out so I couldn't see how it went in.

Easier said than done. With the beehive oil cooler's coolant lines directly above, and the rats nest still in place, I can't get it out. I've gotten it to back out a little, but not enough. Due to where it's stuck at, my choice of tools is pretty limited. Is there any other way to get to this besides dropping the transmission?
Just to clarify where I'm at with this. The brass rod has backed out a bit, but I can still feel it on the other side of the plate. Just the tip of it. The rod wiggles inside the cupped plate, and I can turn it. But it won't break loose.

I have the Haynes manual, but the new rod doesn't look like the one in the book at all, and I didn't have the old one to compare it to when I was putting the new one together.
