Sensitive Vacuum

I got my SE to idle at about 800-950. Not bad for this model. It did have somewhat of a "miss", no particular rythm, noticed only at idle.

Today, I'm cleaning some of the bolts/metal with naval jelly and pulled my brake booster hose off to get it out of the way. When I cranked the car back up, no boost. I had forgotten to plug the vacuum hose back on. When I slid the hose down over the 2.5" of spout, I noticed the clamp was halfway up the hose. I had moved it months ago and had forgotten to put it back around the end. When I pulled the clamp down to position, the idle went perfectly to 800 (stayed there all the way to work, no hunting), and the sound of the motor changed (no sucking air, I guess, and I'm deaf in one ear which makes it nice for the rattles). Also, that somewhat irritating "miss" has disappeared.

Who would have thought this particular vaccum hose was so sensitive to missing a clamp. Another gremlin fixed.

Everyones does that, or at least the ones I have seen do..

And with a turbo l;ike mine, you definately need the hose with the check valve in it.. But the hose with the check valve installed on a NA has a purpose or they wouldnt had put it there... See where it says to engine > ?
