Seized Motor maybe

Ok.. I posted about needing some help before my motor desided to seized up I think.

Problem was motor mounts and leading plugs not firing.

Now problem is that while driving the car it decided to turn off. When turning the key to crank it all i get is a click and if I try it a few time my battery cable starts to smoke. It gets really hot.

I read the artical about using an ATF or not use it. If it is stuck and the motor has 210+K miles on it, would the ATF harm it more or should I go and get something else.

I really think my car is dead. It wasn't worth much to start with but sure isn't worth much now. I know I can't afford a $2k motor or a rebuilt one to toss in the car.

So, what is my best route to unseize this motor. I don't want to start another ATF thread either. Also if I can't unseize the motor, anyone around Atlanta have a spare one that they wouldn't mind parting with for a cheap price. Hell I prob will need help putting it in if it comes to that. I can buy a case of beer or cokes for the help... I sure hope I can unstick it.

Thanks for any help.

I don't think your engine has seized - if your cable is smoking, chances are something is shorting out in the starter circuit.

we will see. I have a spare starter in the passenger bin. Maybe change that out. Problem is that the car cut out on my driving it. That is why i think it might have seized. Also my compression is low that it will not sit in gear on a hill. well after this it would sit on a hill and i couldn't even push it in gear.

I don't really know but going to try the manual thing first and then see if i can't get it to turn over.

thx for the advice.. will change it out if the manual turn works.

doublecheck the starter circuit before changing out the starter. A cable might have rubbed on something and is shorting to your frame.

Of course, that pertains to your battery cable smoking only.

but i love my car. I just don't have a cash flow to take care of it like it should be taken care of. I really don't want to get rid of it. but i can't have a none running car in the parking lot. I wouldn't think that it is in good enough shape to even part out very much. wheels have the clear coat coming off in places. I do have a drive shaft that was made for the car, I paid 318$ for it. only about 5 to 10k miles on it. but oh well.. will see if i can turn it by had.

when turning by hand should i use ATF or find something else?

no. see if you can get a 19mm socket and ratchet; maybe an extension and turn the main pulley bolt.

That's how I have to rotate mine as well. Is that common? I have an 85SE (no P/S) if that matters.

Just makes it easier to turn the motor that way is all. Sometimes I'll try to turn the engine by hand when the tools aren't close by for me to get at.

well I just went out and tried it. NO go.

This is just my genius but could a stuck water pump or alternater cause this as well? Guess I should remove all of the belts and the fan to get to it. Work let me borrow a 3/4'' set with a 2' ratchet. I hope that would be enough leverage to turn the motor.

any other thoughts?

You had it in neutral, right?

Not trying to be condescending - we all overlook one thing or another from time to time.

eat your wheaties, make sure its in neutral, and try like a **** to turn it. if it doesnt work try pouring a cap full of either MMO, regular oil, or ATF down each primary. the ATF is a last resort. i know youre in an apartment complex so rolling it off really isnt possible. id also make sure youre getting spark at all the plugs while youre doing this.

if all else fails im sure you can find a running used motor for cheap.

if you can come up with the cash thats a decent deal:

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pts/309038037.html

i might be able to get you a running 12a for your front bumper or something.

Well.. went straight for the ATF. Had 2 of us on a 2' bar and still couldn't budge it. Made sure it was in nutral as well. Also tried turning the motor the other way and the bolt broke loose. so couldn't turn it that way either.

Tried rocking on it to get it to budge a little but I really don't think that there is a chance for it.

aws140: Is the motor your talking about out of the '79, and it is the one from cali correct?

Maybe I could part it out and take out a small loan and get another one for around 2k or so. Heck I would hope that I would be able to get 1k out of parts but I doubt it. Oh well. If anyone know of a motor around ATL, I think that aws140 live about 100miles away, so I know I'm willing to drive that far. Please let me know the price and condition. I don't know what I will be able to come up with on short notice right now.

Thanks for the help guys and the feed back.

well aws140 asked for them so here they are. I getting the set of images that i just took zipped up. There will be 2 sets. One really high rez and the other low rez. You can dl both if you want... need about 15 min to get then ready. Enjoy these for now.

Edit**... haha my upload speed sucks.. this will take a while... maybe 45 min. but will get there. The links to the zip files should be as follows:

RX7 High Rez size: 70mg
RX7 Low Rez size: 1.1mg

The High rez are really detailed. You can pick out scratches. Something around 2000 pixals wide or so...Higher that most people monitors. At any rate enjoy. Again I'm still looking for a motor if someone has one in good shape let me know.
