seized engine

ok this may seem like kind of a vague question, but how much will it roughly cost to repair a seized engine?

I'd say for the whole shebang, all new seals and etc. around 1500.....but it depends on what engine, 12a, 13b, 13bt....And it also depends on the condition of the irons, rotor housings, and the rotors.

It is very vauge. It depends why its seized. I had a carbon locked engine that once dis assembled and cleaned was perfectly fine.

I had an engine that was siezed because the car was left to sit in one spot for five years. I unsiezed it without even taking it out of the car. Cost to me : $5. Read the "decarbonizing a rotary" thead in the archive.

If it is siezed because of another reason it could require a full rebuild. Rebuild kits run about a thousand dollars if you do the work yourself.

I rebuilt a motor that was run out of oil. The bearings were shot and the rotor crashed against the rotor housing. Surprisingly, it needed only new bearings and a full rebuild. Rotor housings, rotors, end gears and e-shaft were in great shape. $2000 would be my guess for a rebuild with new bearings.

I had a oil cooler line pop on fuji speedway, and me being a dummy I was so intent on waxing a skyline 25T's *** that i wasn't paying attention to my gauges to much, well a 60,000 yen tow bill later i got the car home, pulled the motor apart to find that mine had wiped the bearings, including the small ones that keep your end play correct, and mine had crashed against the side houseing and took them and the rotor housings out. that was 6 years ago (I just threw that 20b away) scavenged it for odds and ends and in the pile it went!

so IMHO I think you got lucky with only the bearings, and seals.
