Secondaries info please.

85 GS...I am haveing trouble with acceleration after 20 seconds or so. To me, it seems like it is running out of gas. The car does fine in the driveway though. By this I mean revving it or holding the accelerator for different lengths of time at varying RPMs. I think it was RX7Doctor who told me to check the sightglasses on the carb for fuel levels. They looked ok, but I took the top off of the carb and checked the floats. They were ok too. I installed a clear fuel filter just before the carb to be able to watch for trouble. It stays full, or close to full under revving(you can see flow though). I have no fuel pressure guage, just in case it comes up. The streams of gas entering the carb look great when throttled. Someone said earlier that they had a similar problem, and found it was no gas going into the secondaries. If this seems possible, please answer me this. When do the secondaries open? Is it under a certain load acting upon the engine, a set RPM? I know mech secondaries work differently, but I'm not ready to change mine while I have a problem. I checked for vacuum leaks using propane. Found none. New fuel pump. Cleaned out gas tank and it was bad. Cleaned or replaced all lines from tank to carb. Cleaned out the oneway valve near the pump.( there really was a lot of trash in the whole system. Cleaned the carb in solution, and ran it for a while in an ultrasonic cleaner.

I know this is unorganized, but I'm just trying to rule things out for y'all.

I know you said you have a new fuel pump and you have no fuel pressure gague, seems to me perhaps your fuel volume could be the culprit? Fuel volume should be bout 1 litre in 60 secs, check it out if you havent already.

Cheers Sue

I was looking at things real quick before I had to go somewhere. I don't think my pump is pumping with the key in the on position, until I try to start the car. I know it pumps then because if you bump the starter, you can hear the pump for a moment after. I'll look into that tomorrow. It is 614am here and I'm on the way to bed.

Like, you can hear the pump going? The electric whiiiiir?

That doesn't mean it's pumping, just means your pump is working

That's true. I pumps though. I just haven't checked volume yet.

Why does the car run differently on the road than it does in the driveway? Any ideas?

Well, it's not the fuel pump. At least I don't think so. The volume test in the haynes book came out almost dead on.
