IL Seats, steering wheel, battery relocated and more

I have been waiting on parts for the engine bay so I started working on the interior. When I got this shell the interior tar sound deadening had been removed. The only things inside the car were the dash, center console and the steering wheel.
I started with the seats. I had to modify a bride FC seat rail to work under my recaro seats. Installed the rotaryshack short shifter and the Nardi steering wheel. the 4 point roll bar is a tight fit. test fitted the pioneer DVD headunit. Since there is no space left in the engine bay I moved the battery to behind the passenger seat. Need a few grommets to complete that project.

The SA has a strengthening rib that will be in your way. Take out the sheet metal cover (storage bins for the FB) and you'll see what I mean.

Those seats are PIMP. Are those vintage or can you still get those? I'd either go with those exact seats, or re-stuff and upholster the stockers.

Battery relocation isnt hard. Just need to run a cable down to the starter (thick positive cable) and hook back up to stock harness, which is a much smaller gauge IIRC. I drilled through the floor and dropped straight down to the starter. It's actually a lot shorter cable than stock from the passenger bin. You want to make sure to route the cable properly, use gromets etc. You do NOT want the power line getting sliced through sheet metal because its improperly going through the metal hole.

That looks good, I need to get a circuit breaker like that. I just have a 175a fuse on mine. I ran my battery cable through the car like yours.

Those seats... Recaro LS? They look a lot like the old school VW GTI seats. Pretty sweet.

They still make seats similar to what he has but they are a bit more complicated.
80's mustangs and VW's had those seats so keep an eye out at junk yards.

You can still get a battery in there. I got a smaller spiral cell battery to fit beside the rib under the bin. Just make sure you measure the space before buying a battery. I'll see if I can take a picture later.

The seats are recaro ls. I got them off of yahoo auctions in Japan. I don't think you can get them new anymore just used.

As for the battery relocation. Mines not complicated but unless you have a welder you'll have to find another way to mount it. I welded a 1/8" thick steel plate to the body of the car. Then I bolted the aluminum battery holder to it. For the circuit breaker I welded a 3/16" thick piece of aluminum to the hold down. Everything is very solid.

That's a good way to do it. I just used a cheap battery hold down kit. I think I might redo mine to something more like the above. Good job!

(whether its taken as an insult or not) I love the bare "finished" primer gray interior, reminds me a lot of well built circle track/NASCAR race cars...or i suppose just race cars in general. Either way, Kudos to you Sir where abouts in Il are you? perhaps we could meet up for some trackday/AutoX events if the travel isnt too far, say Blackhawk?

No insult at all, I am planning on carpet tho. The back will remain stripped. As for meeting up. Sounds good. But she has to be running first story of my life. Lol. Oh yeah I'm in Caseyville IL, just outside St. Louis.

Love the car! I keep seeing pairs of recaros like these popping up on eBay, but the ship from location keeps scaring me away! I'll definitely check into them now. Do you have a guesstimate to what they weigh?

Ill get a actually weight for you in a day or so. I need to pull the passenger seat out to add support to the seat rail.

Cool. I thought the interior looked familiar. He is a friend from college. Looking forward to seeing more progress on it.
