Get two friends. One on the left side and one on the right side. Make sure you've got some road, don't have it jacked up. Rev it to about 4grand and dump the clutch and if both friends tell you their wheel spun then you have LSD LOL
Any differential can spin both tires.
If both tires have equal grip on the road, then both will spin.Especially on an underpowered car.For the most part,1st gens with rear disc brakes will have an LSD.If someone changed the pumpkin out,its possible you have drums with LSD or discs with open diff....but its more likely the car is in its original guise.
Jacking up the rearend and spinning one wheel will tell you....but only if the LSD clutch preload is still there. Many of our diffs are pretty worn out by now.Mine has no preload at all left in it,when I spin one tire the other turns opposite with little resistance. But I can bake both tires at a standstill or while turning donuts because I have lots of power to clamp the LSD blocks together, thus taking up the slack of the worn preload springs.

The way to know for sure is to pull the pumpkin out,or try spinning some donuts. If you one-leg it all the way through the donuts then your open.If you can spin both as you rotate, then you have an LSD.A locked or LSD car will also tend to "whip" around very quickly since both tires are spinning and sliding on the pavement. On an open diff, the outside tire wont spin and will tend to keep the car from wanting to spin.....
BTW,this method is even more fun!

I think the easiest way to test if you have LSD would be to jack up the whole rear end and have the car in gear with the e-brake OFF. Try to spin one wheel. If you can spin the wheel, you have LSD, but if the other wheel spins in the opposite direction, you don't have LSD. Another test is to leave the car out of gear and spin one tire. If both tires spin in the same direction, you have LSD, while if they spin in opposite directions, you have an open diff.
I've got LSD with drums. Don't know if anyone swapped pumpkins. MY *** never likes to stay planted LOL. Donuts are NO problem LOL. I can even break the rear end loose shifting to third and I haven't even put my turbo in yet LOL
hey 85rotarypower i have 2 7's and with the rear end jacked all the way up and the car out of gear one spins opposite and the other the same but if i put both of them in gear the both go opposite.
