Unhappy Search function isn't all that, needs a little change

I have a problem with the search function. one of the things that I search alot is the specific info on the year of a car. Now not many people type the whole year out such as 1985 everyone usually put 85. The last two numbers. Now, if Im trying to do a search I can't put 85 in the search block. Becuase you have to have a minimum 3 letter word. So I feel Im missing alot of would be good info. Can anything be done about that?

I'd like 2 letter also because of FB, FC, and FD.

Definitely go for two-letter words. Oh, and don't forget SA!

just put a wildcard (asterisk) after the two letters.... like this:

83* or FB* or *FB or *83

Yeah, the asterisk works nicely when searching for a year. So using it before the last two numbers will find anything WITH the numbers attached. So, if you put *83, it would find not only 83, but also 1983.

Yeah, and the problem with the two-word allowances is that some people put in strings like "location of o-rings", and it would return any pages with the word "of" in it.... alot of pages indeed.

thanks for the pointers on the wild card that helps out alot. i was just getting tired of not being able to put in the two number year. but know that I know about this * im happy.

as for the word "of" i guess if you put in to much info you will get too much. i was figuring if the amount of two letter words that are out there what would it hurt and if you looking for an "exact match phrase" such as "location of an o-ring" not just a wide open search you cant do it.
