SE Wheels for a base model??

I am thinking of putting the 14" GLS-SE wheels for the 84-85 on my base model 1stgen. I just heard there is a different offset to accomodate the larger brakes on the SE. Will this make for a fitment problem when I try to put the wheels on the car??

They won't fit, it's a different bolt pattern entirely. Base model is 4x110, SE is something more common like 4x114.5 or something.

You wont improve anything (apart from the looks of course). Get some 205/60-13 Yokohama AVS-I's from tire rack while they still have them and be amazed!

Wheel issue

Thanks for the tip on the tires. Are these any better than the AVS4s?? I had a pair of them on my Eclipse Spyder and they lasted about three months before the tread what toast (slight exageration)!

I'll look into them

If you're real keen on 14 inchers, it's sometimes possible to find some used aftermarket wheels... I was able to find some old school CSA's of the "phone-dial" variety.

If want to go all out, you can even get Tire Rack to custom-drill you some rims, I believe they'll drill the ROH Snypers and the Kosei K-1's? You could get 15s or 16s if you go this route.

The main advantage with larger wheels is lots more tire choices. But I can certainly attest to the grip of those AVS int's. Probably the best street tire you can get on 13 inch wheels.

The LE 1st gens had the 14 inchers didn't they, the BBS looking black mesh ones.

Any way there are several different aftermarket ones that will fit. Ranging in price. Diamond racing makes inexpensive steel wheels. The Roh's And koseis are made in the 4 x110 but are 15'. (Tire Rack lists the K1'a At $140. ) For the big bucks get you can get the panasports. And for the really big bucks you can get custom wheels from various manufactures.

The easiest way I have seen to get a good wheel selection is up grade the suspension to GSL-SE . This will give you a normal bolt pattern as well as the larger brakes and LSD.

Just my $.02

Thanks for the help!

Thanks everyone for your helpful input. I think I will probably stay with 13" wheels for now given the fact that the car is essentially in perfect condition (still only have 60K original miles and never been tapped!). I was thinking of going to the larger size to allow me to get a better tire. I am waiting to hear from the Tire Rack about the 205/60/13. No need to change the suspension since the present one is in good shape and fairly tight.

Thanks again!!

Hey yaya, you're correct the 83 Limiteds had 14" BBS style they were/are silver though not black. i just got a 83 LE with the wheels. They are sweet as hell. Can't wait to clean them up and put them on my other car. (limited has lots of frame rot, not good ) they only made 5000 limiteds so the wheels are hard to find. I have been searching for a set since January and finnaly got they whole car, only 20 mins from my house. Talk about luck! Anyway, good luck finding wheels for your rex that 4x110 mm bolt pattern sux and severly limits your selection. Later
