se trouble

Having some problems with my se. Car has no power. Revs very slowly. Backfires on deceleration. Took it around the block and it ran for about 10 minutes then kept shutting off. Starts, put in gear and it turns off. Ran Sea Foam into injectors and into gas tank. Didn't help. Drained gas tank. Refilled with 110 octane race fuel to see if it runs better. No luck. Sounds like I have compression with plugs removed. Front two plugs look like they are burning but rear two plugs look almost new. Motor runs with just rear two plugs removed but not with just front two plugs removed. All four are firing (checked for spark against strut tower). Return tube from cat not attached to cat so 5 and 6 port not opening. Car has brand new gas tank, pump, filter, plugs, cap and rotor. Injectors were cleaned by RC but car sat for a few months. My guess is rear injector is not firing or is clogged from sitting for a few months.

Just as a start to troubleshooting, swap injectors front --> rear and rear --> front.

If your rear rotor starts firing, and the front doesn't... you've found your problem.

Just removed them. I was going to swap them front to back but I'm going to see if I can get them checked tomorrow. Too tired to put that intake back on tonight.

Swapped injectors front to back. Now runs with rear plugs not front. So it looks like I have a bad injector. I'll be looking for a new(used) one. I'll check Ebay tonight.

PS 110 Octane Fuel is BAD for a rotary engine (which is probbaly why you're back firing, it's not detonating until the exhaust port lets it out and badow, it explods in the pipe).

Use 87

That is a god damn expensive way to try to get carbon out. Use Seafoam, by putting it in a vacum sorce, or powerfoam. They work GREAT, the powerfoam works alot better btw, a tad bit more the Seafoam.

Tried Sea-foam but I haven't seen Powerfoam here locally.

Check your cats, one may be clogged. On a side note, I ran 110 octane in mine ALOT, did no damage, but it was a waste. Did it to gain some time at the track. Noticed .3 faster, but not enough to offset the costs.

Well, counts that out then. The actuators not being hooked up realy doesn't mean anything in the lower range. You can take a wire tie and tie them open though. I guess you have checked your coils too.

Took the injectors to get checked out and was able to get the bad injector working. It runs so much better with both of them firing. Idle was fine with one injector now it's a little high with both injectors. I'll have to work on that.

you probably put trailing wires into leading plugs and vice versa. it seems as if the car has ignition problems.

I did that once to another RX7 but not this one. It was definetly a stuck injector. My friend tested it with an injector tester and it wasn't firing. Gave it a couple of whacks to loosen any junk in it and presto, it started firing.

Well both injectors were firing but it seems like one has intermitant trouble. Worked good for about 10 miles then started dying out on me. It seems like just as the motor starts to get hot the problem happens. I let it sit overnight and it starts up fine. Slight dead spot about 4k rpm. I guess I should buy some spare injectors just in case.

Are there any good aftermarket new injectors? Or do I have to get them used?

Before you invest big $$$ in new injectors, get the car idling, and then grab the wiring harness that runs from the passenger side of the car behind the water pump, and then underneath the UIM. This is the lead to the injector plugs and the O2 sensor, and I found that mine had some intermittent breaks that were causing the 'running-on-one-rotor' symptoms. Wiggle that harness and you may find that the engine will cut out. If so, replace your injector pigtails in the harness and that might fix the problem. HTH,
