SE fuel tank issue

ok i think i have a fuel tank problem.....last month my car started stalling. after checking plugs and all of my ignition and electrical things i moved to the fuel system and checked the pump and it worked so i replaced the filter. it worked like a dream. felt great. then after a week or so i was doing some driving about 45mins away from home and it started again but only usually under accel at high rpms. the fuel filter i got from the store was the size of a golf ball and the one i took out was bigger than a baseball maybe. would this cause problems? also i cant drop my tank since i live in an apartment to have it cleaned and such so if i just got a few more filters would it eventually go away or just keep getting worse? anything i can add to help this issue? thx and if anyone has any ideas for a cheap replacement tank let me know or if the have one for sale in indiana pm me. thx rolf.

If you are still running the injection on the SE and not a carb then the filter you picked up is the wrong one. All of the replacement fuel filters for the Se are around the same size no matter what the brand is.

If the problem went away after the install and came back then I would have to either deduct that the filter is clogging up which is very difficult in a FI filter that is new. I have to deduct that the replacement filter fit correctly with the original banjo fittings and such.

Or that the pump is failing.
When you stated stalling, Stalling is when the engine shuts off.
Then you state it is doing it again but at higher rpms.
I take it that you originally meant to state stumbling under accel?
If this is the case at it is around 3800 rpm or so. Then I would lean towards either a 6 port actuator problem if at heavy accel.
Or one of the fuseable links at the top of the link box is failing and shutting off power to an injector.

sry not stalling..... but cutting maybe??? there is nothing, but my warning lights dont come on as if it stalled or died a second or 2 later its fine. also i forgot to add i it seemed like the car was either runing on one rotor or one spark plug. no power just kinda putted.. i will check the fusible link. i know my 5th and 6th ports work i push them in everytime i have the hood open. when i first got the car they were not hooked up and i can tell the diff. i am thinking about runing a fuel pressure gauge into the car and driving around to see if i notice anything like sudden drops when it cuts

Possible that the trailing ignitor is failing. Does the tach stop working at that time?

Did you check the fuseable links.
The best thing to do is have the engine running and wiggle the 2 top fusable links. If the engine stumbles there is a problem there.

On the fuel pressure test. You need to check for pressure and volume.

how long was the car sitting , if the car sits to long the fuel becomes rubery and it can plug the filters as well as injectors. but from the sounds of it sounds more electrical. just like the doctor mention possible igniter or fuseable links. does the car stumbles at the certain rpm all the time. if so it could also be the tps.

How is this filter hooked up? Is there clamps on each end that hold the hoses on or fittings with bolts that go thru the center and screw into the filter?

That is not a fuel injection filter. The stock Se filter has special fittings that screw into the top and bottom of the filter. Sounds like someone has modified your fuel line system. You also need special Fuel injection clamps on a filter like that to keep the hoses from popping off. I would like to see a picture of your filter and how it is attached.

Take a picture and post. By the description of the filter you are using it is definitely a carb type of fuel filter. There are no Fuel injection filters that are clear or that use regular screw clamps.
The pressure is too much for standard clamps to hold.
I would like to make sure your setup is safe. If the hose comes loose it will spray everywhere including onto the exhaust.
That would not be a good thing.

The correct filter will not work on your car because it has been modified. Thats why I want to see a picture of the setup.
