SE 13B into non SE

I would search for this if I could, since i'm sure its come up before. anyway, a guy I talked to today has a 84 SE that runs good etc, but is rotting away to nothing. He's intersted in buying my 83 GS (solid body, great interior, shitty engine) to swap his engine, trans, suspension etc into. Now, I know the suspension is a bolt in thing, but what about the engine and trans? I assume physically getting them in is pretty easy, but what about wiring? Is there a way to simply change the whole under hood wiring harness? or would this require a lot of custom work? thanks guys.

i don't know if the harness will require "custom" work, but i do know that it will require a lot of time and labor-intensive work ... i may be wrong though.

however, you should remind him about the fuel tank and lines ...

you will need some kind of mod'd engine mount or a Racing beat mount meant for this conversion. Most of the other stuff is pretty straight foward and is just a matter of swapping. Don't forget to get the master cylinder and purportioning valve from the SE also.

The rear suspension chassis pickup points are different between the 83 and 84.

why would you need to worry about the gas tank?

I'm not sure on the tank but the fuel pump and lines will need to be swapped cause efi is some high pressure stuff. If concerned about the wiring just ditch the whole EFI thing and go with a Holley like I did. Makes more power than the EFI due to lack of restricive intake system.

well, if it were my project i wouldn't even bother with the SE engine to begin with, I'd go right to a NA 89 engine, but its up to the guy. i'm just trying to get an idea of what would be involved if he were to buy the car and go through with the conversion.

okay ... maybe i'm showing my ignorance here, but i've never had an SE. isn't the SE's fuel pump in it's tank? that was why i brought up the whole fuel tank issue. if it's not ... then i apologize.

the engine mount needs to be slotted unless you use the entire SE crossmember....all suspension componenets will switch over no problem! i have done it several times.....the gas tank will also interchange no probem, the fuel pump is external in the same place as the non efi type... (some bracket modificatitons needed)is the car going to retain the efi or are you going carburated?

I thought it didn't matter much between the SE engine and the 2nd gen motor if you went carburated, or is that only for the S4 engines?

I havent started to worry much about the fuel lines for my 89 swap... but I'm going to have to deal with them soon enough.

What would you reccomend I do to the fuel lines to make them safe for the swap?
