Assume you want to start w/ autocross? Show up at the track w/ a helmet & a check to join the SCCA. Remove all extraneous items from the interior (anything loose) or they will make you leave them trackside. Your car will have to pass basic inspection (brakes, etc). Bring a tire pump & gauge to ensure proper increased pressures. Do not eat a huge breakfast because your adrenaline will be pumping big time. If you don’t have a helmet yet don’t worry, an SCCA member will be glad to lone you one until you shop around for your own. Have a blast & tell us about it!

auto x is fun, except it took a nasty chunk out of my left rear potenza....and get a fuel cell....those left handers will starve the carb since the pickup is on the driver's side.

Chances are that you can get a parent or both or whatever to sign a waiver and let you go. Get in contact with the people running the event and the people in charge of your region of the SCCA. I know for a fact I have seen 15 year old participate. Do you have a permit? Have you gone through Drivers Ed? You would probably have to have a parent there...they may need to ride along.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Rusty - I hate to be the grammer cop all the time, but it is completely possible that you should put off leaping into the money pit of racing until you have completed your education! You know, the thrills and chills of clipping those apexes will still be there when you have achieved the discipline of capitalization and punctuation. I understand your dream, as I too have dreamed of racing since I was younger than you. It's important that you develop the skills and maturity that are required to hold a job, and take a place in society before you just skip to just doing the the fun stuff. Take it from me, racing is happy to eat every dollar you leave near its mouth, and without the time, money, and maturity to sustain a racing effort your career will be a short one. It's hard to take you very seriously when I realize that I wouldn't hire you for an entry level labor job if your application was written with the same skill as your post. Real maturity leads to good decision making. Good decision making is what keeps you and those you are racing (like me!) safe. Maturity is not getting a licence six months ahead of your peers. Keep in mind that the 90 year old who can't keep the car off the sidewalks carries the same licence as you, so the requirements are pretty low. Racing licences are MUCH harder to come by, and very few under the age of 18 get one. Only a fraction of the sanctioning bodies allow drivers under 18 because insurance is such a big problem. Allowing a minor to hurt themselves in a race car would probably close most club racing organizations down ......... permanently!
I understand that it is hard, especially at your age, to do the things that you SHOULD do instead of the things that you WANT to do. Hang in there, keep dreaming about racing, but focus on the important stuff like your education, and just plain growing up. We'll still be out here when you have a little more experience. Don't worry, you'll be racing with us in no time.

In my opinion Boswoj is jumping the gun a little here. Rusty is talking about autcrossing. For a young inexperienced driver there really is no safer, better environment to learn car control, responsibility and about safety. I feel that all 15 year olds should autocross. I would much rather have the young kids learn how to correct a skid in an open parking lot than as they are sliding towards me at 60 mph on the highway. In all reality Rusty would need to only provide the entry fee of approximately $20-$30 to learn a little bit about how to safely control a car in a controlled/safe environment. If nothing else, you should go watch Rusty.
When it comes to club racing I tend to agree with Boswoj. Boswoj, your reading skills could use some work. Rusty never mentioned club racing in this thread.

I'm only 15 too and i can't wait to even drive, nevermind take my rx7 out to the track or auto cross circut. But I'm afraid I'll spoil all the work I put into by wrecking it or something. I also doubt my parents would let me. All these racing games I play aren't helping me either. I can't even get a permit until I'm 16 anyway
O well
