Friday, was driving and car was running great (12a, 144K). Was driving 30MPH when it lost a rotor. Barely made it home and was completely bummed about having to put a new motor in or go through a rebuild. A quick check of the shutter valve showed it was blocking the rear rotor - disconnected vacuum line and eureka - it was fine.
Long story short - the Emission control unit fuse had failed.

RW-7 removed my shutter valve when He rebuilt my carb. Haven'T missed it. It pops about the same. Except if I turn the car off before It returns to Idle. But I do that on purpose. It humors me.

Huum,
I can honestly say that I have not had popping sounds on my cars... I also don't rev them over 5500 (yea I know - i am a baby).

I love it when mine lets out a big bang when I kill the engine. I cut the shutter valve last year while waiting for my Sterling. Haven't noticed a difference.

Actually, I have a spare set of housings but no rotors. So I could rebuild if needed. Somewhat considered a 4 banger FI late model but would be too much work. Would get about 30+mpg though

Would not be right to do unless no other alternative (like 13B)...
