This says it all (regarding da' love)
So a buddy of mine were driving in the Mound to get some food here in Austin, and he asks me,
"Mike, you ever gonna let me drive the Mound?"
To which I quickly replied, "Maybe if you get cancer."
Yeah I know, it's a little horrible to say, but I must say it shows every so exquisitely the kind of love and devotion I have for the car....not when you graduate college, never for a bachelor's gift when you get married, never on a beautiful sunny Austin afternoon in the Hill Country before you get shipped to Yeamon, but maybe, just maybe if you get cancer.
Right on!

Mwhahaha! Yeah, I can relate.
It's like if I was married and someone was like, "Greg, can I make out with your wife?".
Hmmm, okay now that I think about it that way I don't think I would ever let anyone drive my car!

I read your email
I hafta confess..... I really enjoy letting my friends drive the rex, while I'm in the car. I get a kick outa the expressions on their faces as they run through the gears. At first they usually baby it 'cause they think I'll freak out but I always tell 'em to rev the **** out of it. The ear-to-ear grins are priceless and they all walk away wanting one.

Since the car was my dad's he can drive it, but he's only done so once since I bought it from him in August '01, and it was only 1 mile. I'll never let anyone drive it. I'm with RMD on this one, I hate when other people *have* to drive it, like for inspection and **** like that.

I let my dad drive mine once.... I was the most nervous passenger ever. I was like "easy on the clutch" "careful!!" lol. No one will drive her anymore. I get to nervous.

My grandpa (go figure; he's pretty cool ) is the other car nut in my family besides me, so when he came to town a month and a half or so ago, i let him drive it. In response to racerX7fb's comment (cause I was riding with my grandpa); riding in the passenger seat of my car is just about the weirdest thing ever. I'm so used to driving it that i never really think about what it would eb like riding just three feet from where I usually am.

I'll let people drive the Honda...
Once I get the RX-7 back on the road, I'll only let them drive it if they can drive the Honda perfectly. I dont want to hear any gear grinding or see any bucking or anything like that.
Even then, I gotta be in the passenger seat and I will watch like a hawk...
I too hate it when someone I don't know has to drive my car... I only was annoyed at it before I worked as a mechanic, but after knowing what goes on behind the scenes, I insist on being with my car.
I remember several occasions where a nice car would come into the tire shop... Hell, we'd even take beaters out back and do burnouts, neutral bombs, all sorts of crazy ****. Anything that required a test drive like an alignment or brake service, we did a test drive before and after.
If something exotic like a Viper had come in, we'd do burnouts way past till the tires blew... We would probably go straight through the rims, brake rotors and hubs and leave it sitting on the differential.
One guy almost destroyed a Porsche 944 Turbo... And it was in for something that didn't need any test driving... A/C service.
Nobody's doing that in my car...

I know just what you mean Pele, i work at a gas station and see how the mechanics treat customers cars, after seeing some of the **** I've seen I'll never leave my car with a mechanic unless I can see it the whole time. Some mechanics are so dumb, I broght hte TA to a well known shop to have it inspected, and the guy went around the back of the garage figuring I wouldn't know what was up, but all of a sudden i hear the tires screaming and the engine racing, I looked at the manager and was like "WTF kinda shitty place you runnin?" what a load of ****. Oh well, at least it wasn't the 7.
