Sanding down Aluminum 4 Spokes

I am using 220, 320, then 400 grit sand paper to get the remaining clear coat off, and the center cover grime, as well as start the polishing process on my rims. What should my final grit be when done? 400 is where I am at and I don't think it's as "fine" as I would like...
800, 1200, 1600? In that order? Then some aluminum polish.

OK, after reading... 1500 is where I stop, then go to Rough (jewelery polish). Then India Ink. NASA uses aluminum treated with india ink for optical relfections...better than anything else...

I used Tremclad and it's still looking brand new after 3 years. You will need to at least rough up the old paint for better adhesion with sand paper. Use a model brush for the larger sections and the wide end of a toothpick for the "MAZDA" section.

I would suggest that you do each step on each of the four rims at the same time. This will help you to avoid having a different finish on each rim.
