Salvage Questions Por Favor

I have access to any and all parts of a non-running ( engine wouldn't run ) 1985 GSL. I have a 1981 with 4 port 13B. I have to go where it is to get whatever, but then the guy wants to get it out of his yard. I have a few weeks to get everything I want.

Will the rear end ( with disc brakes ) swap ? Propellor shaft ? Transmission ? What about the distributor, ignitors, coils ? Electric windows ? Please tell me what are the other treasures lurking that I should get before it goes to the crusher.

Get the rear end and drive shaft atleast, (the drive shaft has a slightly different pattern for the rear of newer 1st gens)then if you want the master cylinder grab that too, because the disc rear needs more pressure than the drums, but will work fine with the drum master cylinder. That is the only way I have ever run the GSL rears on the GS models.

You might as well grab the entire rear end as 813KR$ said. The rear differential has Limited Slip, so you want that, and it's easier to swap an entire rear end IMHO than it is to try and make a hybrid with disc brakes. Drive shafts change, but I'm pretty sure that they'll all mount to the tranny the same way, so you don't need to take the tranny.

Don't forget to grab all the hard brake lines for the rear and the e-brake cable as well.

As for other treasures.... well it's always good to have extra stuff, especially if the guy's SCRAPPING the car. For example, an extra carb can come in handy if you decide to have Rx7Carl/Sterling rebuild a carb and don't wanna have your car out of comission for a while. Engines and Trannies can be re-sold on here to people who need 'em. (assuming you're getting this stuff for ub3r-cheap)

Grab ignitors and ignition coils! DLIDFIS is easy to do with the extra parts.

Personally, I prefer the '85 dash, but it's a bit of an involved process to swap them, and if it doesn't match your interior there's no point. The GSL seats also had more adjustibility controls if they're in good condition.

Can you see if it has a stock jack? I need one

My opinion just see how much the salvage yard is gonna give him for the car. most likely not much more than 50 bucks. Offer him 100 for the whole thing. Worth your time and money just for the rear end. Granted, you dont really need an engine but having one you can rebuild/port would be nice. Also you never know how long your tranny will last and if was abused or not. Also having extra fenders would be nice since walmart parking lots dont seem to be the friendliest places to park. Basically anything extra you have is worth having, as long as you have somewhere to put it.

I am with Ian, just take the whole car, If they take it to the junkyard it is worth about $100, If someone picks it up they will give them $25 for it.

It is so nice to have a few cars to pull parts from when you need them.

If you get the rear do not forget the ebrake cables.

Yeah, but if you're like me and live in a semi-detach house that only has a 3 car driveway, currently occupied by 3 cars... you're a little out of luck!

I have a guy who'se practically giving away a '92 Eagle talon whose only problem is a head gasket, and I have no place to put it!
