safe to do this?

getting tired of listening to the angry lawnmower in the back of my car, but don't want / can't afford to spend the proper money on the rest of the RB exhaust setup. Have the race header and custom crap behind that. Friend of mine suggested packing my fart can with steel wool, then shoving the silencer back in the end of said toot-barrel. i don't see this as the best of ideas. am I being too cautious, would it be okay? If it were to get too hot, wouldn't the steel wool just start to disintegrate and blow out the exhaust?

Sam (A.K.A. dj55b, a.k.a. ReSpeed) put up a thread on how to build your own muffler. It's really informative. If you're going to attempt a re-pack of your fart cannon, get stainless steel wool, in various grit ratings (0, 00, 000, 0000, etc.)

I don't know, you can sometimes pick up the middle section of the RB SP system
for pretty cheap and they are so thick and well made that even if they are old they
still work great. Then you can throw a cheapie muffler on until you can afford the
RB one.

I have the RB SP full system and it cost me about $400 used from someone here
on the forum. You just need the middle section and maybe a muffler. For that 400
I got the header, middle section and the RB muffler. So maybe you can find just
the middle section (which is what will help quiet it down the most) for cheaper.

I've found a setup for a good price - It's just affording to do so currently. I'm putting money away to do so on the side. trying to see if the guy will lower the price since i have the header already. but i was hoping i could do something in the meantime so i can think while I drive. I can't do anything as drastic as Sam did, so i was just going to take the silencer off, stuff the muffler with steel wool, and put the silencer back on.
