Unhappy Sad to leave you guys!

Well guys, it's been quite a few good years with you all--though lately I've been over in the Megasquirt forum. You all have been here for me and it's been a blast.

I'm sure to forget a few of the guys that have helped me but here's some credit to em: DF, setzep, SteveGsTii, FBII, Ken (muythaibxr), Renns, silverrotor, LongDuck, newrxr, reted, sir rupert hobo, felix, max, iotus, yearsofdecay, David Lane, et. al.

I'm going to sell my car and thought you all should have first dibbs. I'm sure one of you young guys will love the car like I do.

In case you're interested why, it really boils down to two things:

1) I don't feel safe on the roads in my little first gen. I've seen and avoided way too many wrecks lately, and everything on the road here in Texas is usually much bigger than my little FB (pickups, semi's, suv's). It goes from cell phone idiots, wreckless people, not paying attention, make-up in the mirror, you name it people have no respect for others on the road. The FB has almost no crash protection other than seat belts and my head is like 2" from the roof pillar. I don't want to wake up brain dead cause some idiot t-bones me and my head slams into the glass. Pretty much ditto all that cause I also have kids in the car sometimes. Yea I'm getting older but it took me this long to realize--bad crap happens all the time and it's just not worth the risk to me anymore.

2) My work is getting very interesting and I want to devote more time to it. I'm lucky to be working in the space program and really enjoy the challenge. Hopefully we'll be going back to the moon in about a decade I really don't have time anymore to be messing around with the car.

Anyway if you're interested, here's the link to my post over in the for sale section.

Not gone yet but soon. It's been alot of fun being on the forum and learning about the rotary.

Thanks for the good times.

Sorry to see you go, but I have to agree with you. I've been saying the same for several years: people just don't respect driving anymore...they don't take it serious. It's just a necessary evil to them...something they have to do to get from here to there. And I think cars have gotten too good, so they don't feel like they have to take it seriously and pay attention.

Anyway, enough of that. Good luck with your endeavors!

I Definately Agree. My Daily driver is an SUV. I would never Daily drive my 7 even if she was 100% stock. But she is great to drive on a few nights and weekends here and there.

She's paid for, so keep her. You'll never replicate it the same way you did it.

Good Luck in whatever you choose!!

I completely understand your wanting to move on.

But...the RX-7 has proven to be a tough car in collisions and roll overs.

It will out handle and in most cases be able to avoid the collision, where a big pig will just plow into the situation.

Please keep up with the forum, we're all friends here.

Good Luck

I hear what you're saying about having your head 2" from the roof pillar, it bothers me also. I'm glad mine isn't a daily driver for that reason (among others *cough* fuel cost ). Like Directfreak said, you might end up kicking youself down the road if you sell it. If you have the means/space it might be worth it to have even if you only drive it a few times a year. Either way, good luck with what you decide!

You guys are doing a good job of getting me to re-think this. I'd love to find a sensible way to make it work, but right now it seems like a real hard sell for me and the family.

Thing that really bums me out is I wish I had a chance to actually meet some of you guys--too bad we're all spread out over the US.

I'm sure I'll track in here from time-to-time kinda like TJ (rotormotordriver) does. I'm really glad to see his situation has gotten better, I remember a while ago things were going pretty tuff for him. Nice to see a success in life like that.

Heed the advice - try to keep it. I only drive mine about 1500 miles a year max. Only on nice sunny days, and only in summer. You know - the old "Sunday drive" kind of stuff. If you've got it the way you want it, everybody's right - you'll never be able to replicate it again.

BTW, I'm about to be 45 and understand your vulnerable feeling - I get it too. But I figure, you've got to have some fun in life, sometimes regardless of common sense. In today's day and age, we don't seem to have a lot of "fun" things anymore.

I forgot to add..

I was in the RX-7 scene all my life until approximately '95, when I got my first brand NEW car. The RX-7 that I had (a perfect SE) just sat, so I sold her.

She was stolen and stripped within two weeks after the new owner failed to listen to my
warnings about it being a desirable vehicle.

I regretted selling her, and regretted her fate. I couldnt stop thinking about the 1st gen, until I got back in the game in '01.

That being said, I love my car. It sleeps in the garage, while the others sleep outside.
Keep her.
