SA shifter into an FB

Can it be done?

I know that there are differences that prohibit a complete swap between SA and FB shifters, but I cannot remember the specifics and a search didn't exactly clarify things. Basically, I'd like to put a 79/80 shifter into my 82, because I love the long old school shifter. What all does the swap require? I realize I'd need a new shift **** too.

You could cut your shifter shaft and weld the SA shaft onto it. The swap is otherwise not possible because the locater pin on the shifter is in a different position.

i read your trying to fit a sa shifter into a fb, cant be done. the sa ball at the bottom of the shifter is too short and will not reach down far enough into the fb trans. no to mention the locating pin in on the opposite side
