SA to restore or modify?

I have been looking for restored or near mint first gens for sale to get an idea if there is any substantial difference in selling price for a stock restored first gen vs modified. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

I have a 1980 SA with 12A(possibly ported I’m unsure). The dash is cracked in multiple places, seats have been replaced with a later year with adjustable headrests and it needs painting.

The emissions components have already been removed and a Racing Beat intake, Holley 4 barrel carb, Racing Beat header and HKS exhaust have been installed.

What I am trying to figure out now is, I want to clean up the car but I am pondering painting the dash, changing the color of the interior and painting the body a different color.

I would probably never remove the after market components so body wise is there more value in a correctly restored interior and body or as long as its modified well does it really matter?

Well bud this is about whats going on with my 79. The interior just didnt last in them I guess. I say its not gonna matter to much if you just restore it with nice stuff. For instance redo the vinal a different color corresponding with the exteiror. I would assume if you getting custom carpet ect just dont make it feel like theres anything major missing, and try not to get carried away with any newer era stuff like big tach or stupid stuff like that. If its a pleasant car to ride in and doesnt smell or leak, and appears to have a uniform interrior, it will be ovrall nice. Just dont expect a ton of money to begin with the way things are now days. You wont go wrong with what you explained there to me.

I always respect the guy who wants to bring his car back to original restoration. But these cars were so plentiful that the the rare ones are the ones that are restored perfectly original.
Unfortunately, it turns out to be far more work to create such an FB that will only appeal to a very select group of people.

I would say if you were trying to make an FB as original as possible, you should start with a better example.

You'll probably have an easier, cheaper time bringing your existing car up to the level you want with custom work. ( fuzzy dashboards are not allowed!!!)

Don't try to fix that dashboard. Find a replacement. It's a painful experience, but the end result is worth it.

if is modified i just keep modifying it, is doesnt make sense to restore it to a non modify condition, it takes alot of money to do that, specially a SA that i seen that they are discontinuing the parts already
