I have a really nice hole where it should be. But I have an Aiwa cd player to put in, I have already put the speakers in the rear and run new speaker wire, Pulled all of the factory amps and crap. You will have to cut the face plate to put in almost any new radio. You can still buy the **** style but they are all tape players.

Pioneer 7500mp (enlarged stock radio hole to DIN size)
Infinity Kappa 4" 2-ways in stock location
Infinity Kappa 6"x9" 3-ways in boxes in the hatch (you'll see where)
2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 10"s in sealed box (box is just til i build something custom to go where the bins go)
75w RMS per Seperate
250w RMS per Sub

hope that gives you some ideas, the 6x9 boxes are Road Gear from Best Buy (they fit perfectly there, i'd reccomend them, they are also a good size to provide good sound from the Infinitys.

-Kurt

edit: http://hroman.slac.com/rx7/Kurt/ for pics of my car, if you care to see them.

they sound good, when i build the 79, i'm gonna put seperate tweeters inside my right and left air vents, just to move the soundstage up a little in the car... it would be nice if you could get a 5.5" up front for a little more midrange from the front, but really, the car is so small, that the midrange from the 6x9's is more than enough for overall sound.

get a detatchable face cd player. Then get some kinda crappy looking or stock radio face. glue all the buttons and **** onto the face and then attatch velcro to the back of it and to the front of the cd player. Now when you are out of the car you can put the mock up face on and no one will see your cd player and break in hoping to find the face (where we all know it goes) in the map holder pocket in the door. My buddy did this on his 73 vw bus and the stock saphire am radio face. The illusion was perfect.

I want to replace the radio in my gslse but obviously it's a gignatic unit and I don't want to have a gigantic black plastic plate with the radio in the middle of it. Anybody have any suggestions on how to make a nice looking cover to go around the head unit?

Well I'm running a complete Pioneer system a Pioneer DEH-P7500MP(Love the Motorcycle Graphic) two 2.5'in 2-ways in the front and two 5'in in the back two tweeters on each of the top right corners of the door moldings and two 10'in subs in a custom box me and my pops made it fits snug against the back and slants down so it doesn't disturb the glass hatch. I have a pioneer 750watt amp for the subs and running the speakers off the radio until i get enough money to buy another amp for them. I bought all this stuff from Best buy and the reciver from 6th ave. cost about $500 with wires and all self install.

I have the original stereo, Clarion am/fm in the top part and cassette in the bottom. Anyone know where I can get the fronts off those units put on a working unit, or is there someone who might be able to rejuvinate the old one. Obviously more worried about maintaining originality than having a great system, but some tunes would be nice.
