Here is a useful site for this kind of thing; http://members.aol.com/solomiata/Drivetrain.html
So the short answer is yes the 84-88 RX7 (non turbo) diffs are the same size and will interchange. Again this is just the diff itself, the housings, and gears should be used from whatever car you are swapping this into, in your case the FB gears. The FC has a totally different length pinion and it can't be used.

Yeah, I'm only going off what I've read, since both times I did the swap it was from a drum brake rear axle, so I switch the entire rear end to get LSD and Disk brakes, so the diff, etc was already assmebled.
The only reason I have that link is because I'm currently working on a 91 NA FC and want to put a LSD in there without going with a full T2 rear end swap (since you also need the trans, driveshaft, half shafts etc) so i've been researching this quite a bit. Should be pretty straightforward really...

I've been under the impression that the 1st gen R&Ps are 6", 2nd gen NAs 7" and the TIIs 8". I haven't taken a 2nd diff apart yet, but they have half shafts instead of axles. Not sure if that will make a difference or not. For simplicity, I'd stay with the large/small axle 1st gen diff that matches your housing.

1st gens are all 7" as are the na fc's, and the 94-2005 miatae.

the 6" is the 323gtx/90-93 miata

8" is all the turbo/v6 stuff, FC turbo, FD, rx8, mpv, b trucks

The UK doesn't like Limited slips do they? As long as its the 7" Miata rear it should swap right in. It's been a while since I shipped anything from England, but I would think you should be able to get one shipped over there for not a rediculous amount of money.... The diff itself is quite small....

I think it should fit fine, and yes you will need to set backlash and pinion depth since you'll be putting the Miata LSD in the FB housing.

You mentioned that you swapped a rear drum brake system to a disc system. I've got an 83 gsl and an 81 gs( I believe). The 81 has rear drums and the 83 disc brakes. I want to swap them but wasn't too sure if the housing on the 81 will support the 83 components. Is the rear axle basically the same between the 81 and 83?

The drum housing is different than the disc housing. You can swap the entire unit without problems, aside from the driveshaft. The driveshaft from the 83 will also be needed.
