Exclamation S4 intake swap using stock ECU and components...

OK OK...heard good and bad things about using S4 N/A intake on your GSL SE. Just doing reaserch right now on upcoming motor swap. Some say they did the swap and got 21 MPG using the stock Air Flow Meter. Some say it dropped to 8 MPG due to more air flow causing the SE computer to compensate giving the engine more fuel. They had to either run piggy back computer or recalibrate AFM. But this increase in air/fuel should be the case for everyone who does this swap. Why the difference? Who has done this swap and what did they have to do? Please help! GSLSE addict...any info?

I don't really know. I still have the stock intake. I know rx7doctor mentioned getting a drop in fuel mileage as well with the S4 intake. Although, it doesn't seem to me that it should make a difference. The AFM measures airflow with the vane (trap door thing). The amount the vane opens is based on the pressure difference across the AFM. So for a given air flow, the differential pressure across the AFM should be the same. Also in normal driving, the amount of air/fuel entering the engine should be the same with either setup. The only dfference is that the S4 butterflies won't have to open quite as far as the SE ones would. The only point where up should see the difference is at the high end when you are starting to outflow the SE's design. I wonder if the reported fuel mileage drop is due to some other factor (vac leak, TPS setting, etc. ?).
