Question s2 guage cluster into s1?

hey all,
I have a series2 guage cluster that i'd like to fit into my series 1. Mainly because its got a oil pressure gauge replacing the clock.
Has anyone done this before? was there an oil pressure sensor on the series1's or will i have to steal one of a s2? i assume the rest is matching the colors of the wires to the new s2 plug. Any suggestions/comments?

You first assumption is wrong, the wiring configuration is different. If you want an oil pressure guage, why not just add one? This isnt a plug and play type of mod.

It is plug and play with just moving some wires in the circle conectors and adding one or two depending on if you have a 79 or 80. a nubee should be able to do it with a wiring diagram. why just go for a series 2 ??why not try this.

It looked quite straight forward to me. There are just a few more connectors on the plug than the s1. I got a s2 shell wanted to put some pieces to use, what dash in the pic is that?

yeah exactly, plug and play isnt moving pins around... That would work, if you have the 2 pin outs side by side and was 100% right the first time...

the conectors are the same. just the pins are in diferant locations. unlike my dash in the pic above. the dash is an 83 the gauge cluster is a 90 na the wiring harness is a 88 t2 ae. soo needless to say this would be for some one that is a little more advanced.

Guy, you seem to forget that the S1 engine doesn't have provisions for oil pressure sensors. So if you go ahead, you'll need an adapter block and a sensor.
About the wiring, well, you can also swap the cable tree. Like swap to a complete S2 dash wiring loom, and engine loom. This way you'd be able to use the correct wiring.
If you are a bit more experienced, I should say about everything is possible (as is proven by that 2nd gen cluster). It's all about how much time and nerves you want to invest. I just installed a 2nd gen (NA S4) speedo into my S2 cluster, for example.
