S2 5speed gearbox problems...
Hey Guys,
Have been having probs for a while now...
1) The shifter doesnt sit between 3 and 4 where it should, it can freely move left and right between 1&2 and 3&4.
2) There is a fair amount of play in the shifter when its in gear
3) To get into 5th or reverse, I gotta take the shifter to the far left, then give it some momentum to push it over to between 5 & 6. It needs a fair bit of energy to push over there.
I am comparing this to mates one which was rebuilt a few thousand ago - his shifter sits firmly between 3 and 4 and is real smooth to push side to side.
Just wondering what I should look at doing? I have pulled a box apart before just wondering what to look for/replace/tighten.
Cheers!
Paul

Along with the bushings, make sure there is some oil in the shifter tower. My shift tower was dry, and there were times the detent spring for the 5-R throw would bind up. When that occured, there wasn't any way to shift into either gear. The stick would move over far enough to engage the shift fork.
As for the stick just flopping around (in nuetral) there is a spring that helps to center the stick, which is probably broken.
