Question S to SE front spindle difference?

I'm doing a swap on my 85 S to GSL-SE, are the spindles the same on both cars or do I have to change the whole strut tower. The front wheel bearing part number is the same for all models but is the spindle length different? Would like to know this before I tear apart my car. Thanks

I don't know if the length is different, or the thickness or exactly what is, I just know they ARE different.

Most people swap out the whole strut with the brakes, spindles, etc.

Yeah, they are different but interchangeable. The 12a models have there spring perch ~ 1/4" lower on the spindle/tube assembly and the tube is ~ a 1/4" shorter also (just make your car ride 1/4 lower). I found this out because I was also swaping over a full -se suspension over to my 83 and one of the -se spindles was bent so I wen't out to a junk yard and got a set off a 85 GS.
So it's up to you, use the -se spindles if you want your car to ride 1/4 higher if not the 12a spindles will work just fine.

And yes, you are correct about the bearings for the two.

Thanks for the reply, 1/4" isn't worth worrying about, I just put new struts and springs in it 2 years ago and didn't want to tear it apart again if I didn't have to. Mine are in better shape also.

This is a great site, wish I found it sooner!
