He didn't.. He had it towed to the dealer, the invoice had the date it was towed.. the dealer proceeded to check the local SCCA website roster to see if his name was on the list of cars that ran that day, sure enough it was. The time of the delivery along with th econfirmed runs with the RX8 had him cornered.. He's still fighting it in court....

~edit~ speedo bit already mentioned...
It'll bolt on to any Mazda rotary, since the Renesis has the same bolt pattern all the others have. The bellhousing WILL fit. Flywheel probable will aswell, starter could be another thing.

Why not going for a Renesis + 6 speed swap. All problems solved (except the speedo)

the ren is still a 13b and most of teh parts arent really that different

seeing as anfb is 600-1000lbs lighter than an 8, i bet it would do fine with any n/a setup IMHO of course

More and more actually, mostly Japanese that I've heard about. It's not the dealers but the manufacturers policys now. They pay people to goto automotive competitions like SCCOA and drag races and take pictures of any new cars. They try to get plate numbers and VIN's. I guess that they get paid as freelance tattletales or something. Seen it on Mitsu boards and Subaru, now Mazda. But I can't blame them, you race you risk it.

Not that many on this forum are effected-lol, but word to the wise to anyone taking a new car under warranty to a competitive event. Remove and cover all forms of vehicle ID beforehand.

By the way I've spent some time on the RX8 board and there have been issues with those trannys when used hard. One guy goes through one every time he dumps the clutch at high rpm launches, he's a slow learner I guess.

Racing beat sells an adapter that plugs into the front cover and runs the speedo off of the gear in the front cover or something. Problem solved

Site Link?

I bet I could get a whole Wreaked car, What would the Trans be worth? I wonder if it would be worth looking into the Rad and oil Coolers also.

Mazda is not the only manufacturer handing out SCCA licenses, checking autocross enrollments, and then not honoring warranty claims for damage done on auto-x. Subaru WRX and Mitsu EVO are doing the same thing..............

Conflict of interest or a good hook?

So far as proving the tranny is weaker, aside from what every one else has said.. My understanding is that when you got more gears, you got less room, so the gears have to be smaller and thus, weaker. I`ve heard this problem come up on other types of cars as well...

BTW, I heard there were random wheel lockup problems on a few people`s rx8s. I don`t recall (oops, bad choice of words, heh) if it was tranny or diff related, but either way, the rx8 tranny doesnt sound like a good way to go.

I'm also intrested in this. Might be a way to use it to correct the speedo using a miata transmission. Can you look for a part number also?

James at Krazy Rpm put a reny trans on a periferal ported 13b and launched at 10000rpm, lets just say it would not go into second gear after that. Maybe it will work, as long as you do not launch at 10000RPM

I was actually thinking of putting a reny trans in my 1st gen also with a bridgeported 13b, but after reading all this, I think I will have to do a little more researching first.

You know guys, you can put 5 speed miata and RWD 626 trannies behind a rotormotor. And get better ratios for much less $$. Just search the Race section. And the speedo can be made to work too.

I was wanting to put a miata 6spd in my Rx7 and since the 5spd will work the 6spd should work. I have a N/A 12a with just a few mods and I think the miata tranny will work fine. Anybody have proof or any advice on how to get it in there.

Ok, The way I am understanding all this is that the 8 tranny will not hold up to allot of HP. However, these are first gens and most will not make enormous HP. All my goal is 220 hp, and I will have to do alot to my 6port 13b to get there. So, with this in mind then the 8 tranny should be sufficient don't you think?

Thats my plan, the miata tranny. i was searching about the speedo. but the only thing i could find is about switching out the 6 tooth gear for the 5 tooth. is that all thats involved to get the speedo close?

for high power application, a T56 with custom gearing can be one of the best option.
