I was just discusing this yesterday with a buddy of mine. Suppose to be my weekend project. Research that is. Would like to find one in a bone yard, but they haven't been out long enough for anyone to realy tear one up good yet.

how much power do you think the rx8 tranny can hold? id really like to use one instead of a TII tranny when i go turbo, a six speed would be awesome.

RX8 six speeds are now where near as strong as a TII tranny. One helpful hint: The RX8 tranny doesn't have a speedo gear! So you'll have to use some other method of telling speed. The RX8 has a sensor in the rear diff instead of a gear on the tranny. Yeah its kinda cool to have a RX8 tranny but not really worth it.

You should also keep in mind that the engine/tranny bolt pattern, flywheels, counterweights, starter, and speedo assembly are offensively incompatible.

~edit~ speedo bit already mentioned...

For some reason I do not believe this. A factory RX8 has more hp than a stock TII. So why would the rx8 tranny not hold up as well as the TII? It handles more power from the factory than a TII tranny does.

Do you have any proof to back this theory?

The RX8 puts down roughly the SAME as a TII and YES the tranny is lighter and weaker. The ONLY bonus to an RX8 tranny is the 6th gear, if you want it. **** factor. If you want to put down power, go with the TII tranny.

People are busting rx8 trannys left and right without much abuse at all. The rx8 tranny is only a slightly modified miata tranny. Thats it Keep in mind the rx8 only has 160ft/lbs of torque. The TII has much more torque than that. HP isnt what breaks things, torque is.

What about a six speed (mazdaspeed) miata tranny with a 13b front bellhousing from the tranny on it..? Might be cheaper and easyer to find....

Well, do you have any proof, to back this? I know 3 rx8 owners and neither one of them have had this happen. Give me a link or something to read this or I call Bullshit.
The torque is greater in the TII but not that much more.
Just want to see some sort of proof. I can not take your word for it.

the mazda speed miata tranny might actually be worth it. Its rated to handle the additional torque from the turbo

A guy we autocross with had the tranny go out on his and the dealer wouldn't cover it because he was autocrossing..BUT get this THEY gave him a FREE SCCA membership when he bought the car.... What a load of crap, they encourage autocrossing then say it voids the warrantee when something goes wrong...

CHAD- I heard the trannys are being filled with synthetic fluid and are burning it up between changes... Leading to damage, but......keep up with service and it shouln't be a problem...

BTW call me tommorrow, The s10 is dead and so are my chances of buying your car.....

Why did he tell them he was autocrossing when it went out? That stuff should be kept quiet when making warranty claims.
