rx7doctor: starts, runs, will not idle

13B. Starts up fine. Blew misty cloud for a little bit, seemed mostly from gunk and water in the gas. Fog went away and it sounded great. It just won't idle. My hopes are that it is just from sitting for two years and that a tune-up with new filters and gas will have it running.

You just have to keep reving about maybe 1k to keep it going.

The thread title sounds like I get up and I never stop, lol.

Although replacement of the cap/rotor/plugs and filters is a good idea. I don't believe it will solve your issue.

What you are looking for to start with is a big vacuum leak. It's either going to be that the air intake hose from the AFM to the T/body is loose where it attaches to the AFM. It can be that it is loose where the air intake hose joins(It's a 2 piece hose). Or it can be that the attachment nuts are loose where the hose bolts to the T/body. And last but not least the hose that comes out of the air intake towards the top and goes into the plenum.

There are other things that can cause this but this is the most logical and best starting point that I can direct you to.

Yea, I did notice there was some belt noise which is to be expected but there was a sucking/air noise I could hear when the motor was first starting to turn over before it actually fired. I'm going to buy it anyway and drive it home... reving at each stop. I've only gotta go maybe 10 minutes. It starts back up right away each time so I don't have to worry about it dying. My last seven wouldn't idle either and I had to drive that almost an hour reving at every stop so this is nothing for a much better car.

Isn't that what keeps us old farts young? Now if you had said get IT up and never stop, I would suggest cutting back on the little blue pills.

So I take it y'all think this isn't a very serious issue? It sounds great when it's running. A nice deep purr.

What? Me needing blue pills to stay up or the idle issue.
J/K.

No, the best sign is that it starts and runs right away. That means that the compression is fairly decent. The injectors probably don't have any leakage, etc....

Twas my assumption of the whole situation. I'm just still very n00bish to rotaries. As all may remember I only had my '84 GSL for 3 months before the rear fell out of it.

I love these cars and the people associated with them though so I knew I had to get another and here I am!

Now about blue pills... if I ever need a pill to help me out I'll either stop trying or have an implant put in. I'll be old. I don't have to have any shame. I don't need to worry about what people think. They should just respect their elders!

i.e. You see an old man buying diapers in a supermarket. He looks at you and says "Yea, so what I **** myself??!? What ya gonna do about it? Wait till your my age.... ooooh I just **** myself right now! Yea, how bout that?"

I'm 19. I fear the day I'm OLD. Then again that's like 75 now and some of the greatest, funniest, and coolest people I know are OLD.

LOL. Little blue pills have been known to help a few old farts have more fun.
I always laugh when the ads for "stiffy" pills have the disclaimer about asking your Doctor if you're healthy enough. If I'm still breathing, I'm healthy enough. Besides, what a wonderful way to go........
