I didn't know there was one that said Mazda, or that there was a light kit. I have the RX-7 one, doesn't go with the all black widebody.

 

Pacific used to make those personalized to say whatever you wanted.

 

The pics from the book are from a place that was in Ca and mail order. I remember back in the late 80's that the backlit ones were still available. There were alot of neat stuff in that catalog. It was still back when i believe that rotary reliabilty was still offering seat extenders for the seat tracks for us tall guys.

 

Aftermarket RX7 products from 1982! cool stuff...hehe.

This is a picture i took for photography class of my uncles 1983 possibly 82 Mazda RX-7 sitting in the driveway . At the time i cut the picture out ... well because we didn't have photoshop in the 80's !! So i ended up taping up on my bedroom wall. You can barely make it out the Rear Panel ... It had an RX-7 in bold letters. The light panel came with the car and ive never seen another like it after he sold it in 1984. Is this the light panel you are referring to ???
btw... picture is a cropped pic taken of me in my room.

 

that is pretty damn cool, were these only for SA's? i know i've seen a picture of these somewhere before but never IRL. maybe one day when i get sick of the FC and pick up another 1st gen i'll have to start hunting parts

Steelbane, that's a cool piece of personal history. Fun when you get something as an adult, that you drooled over as a kid. The car in your picture is a 79 or 80. From 81 to 85 the tail lights and area between were shaped differently.

 

i am looking to purchase one of those middle tail light sections that say rx7 for my rx7 83

 

looking into one of these also, I have an 84. Haven't had any luck, thinking of going on the Japanese auctions or just having one custom made.

 

just make one .....

 

Had these new and don't ever remember a center section as described.
