Was the car sitting for a long period of time before you bought it? If it was, then it could just be that things cleared out of the engine and allowed it to make its full power potential. If not, then you have probably just learned how to drive it better. Most times, I find that after I have driven a car for a while, it almost seems to feel slower after a while. Its really all in your head when that happens.

Who was it owned by before you bought it? If it was owned by some old lady who grannied it around all day, then that can definately slow you down a bit (carbon buildup).

If you have been driving around romping on it all the time, it blows all the carbon out of the motor and it will restore compression and make more power. So you could be right that the car now has more power than it did before.
