RX 7's And Sound Systems - Clues?
As I said in an earlier post, I have only had my RX7 1 day and am loving it already. I have a reasonable sound system I took outa me old FALCON and am dieing to (somehow) put it in my RX. It has a Sony head unit, 2x12" KICKER subs (In carpeted 1 inch ply boxes) a BOSS 4x175 watt (700 watt total) amp & 2 - 6x9" KICKER 3 ways. Gee, is there any room to put the 3 ways? And what do you guys with subs do, they gonna take alot of room in the "boot" ! Curious as to how you sound heads have your cars wired!

Cool. . . bloody hell. I so love your car, those wheels are great. Mine have to go - standard 185x60x13's -
I wonder if it would be better to mount my 6x9's in the front doors - and just leave the subs in the boot. probably not enough room in the front doors for em eith - is there? Yoiu went to alot of trouble to RAISE those speakers. . . where are YOUR subs?

Here is a pic of where my subs are: they are half-way blocking the rears, but their sound quality is so great, together with the 5.25 2-ways up front (those were even harder than the rears to get in there!)
Note that these subs are going to be in a new, CUSTOM box, not this generic one, soon. They are going to be in a seperate chamber box, about 10" high, flat on the top, in the same location this one is. Its going to be ported firing towards the side walls.
Here are pics of the (pain in the *** to install) 5.25" speakers up front:
Thanks for the compliments! It is my passion and i love my car too! However, the engine has been blown for over 2 monhts now, i'm really starting to miss it. Its getting a turbo 2 engine for a new heart :-)
If you want any help installing your system, feel free to PM me. I have installed 2 systems in FB's before, and am getting formidably good at it.
Howeve,r i have never wired in a wire connector for the head unit. That was done by a previous owner.

COOL. Thanks for all the really concise help! Great pics two - I cant believe youre subs there - hehe they so close to the glass, I bet its dieing to push that rear lid off! I took a look tonight inside the car - And I couldnt even see where to start to pull the console out so I could install the head unit - I hate it when I break things trying the incorrect way to remove things in the first place - I think I MUST get a manual.!! Again - thanks for the assistance! I NEED THOSE WHEELS! - what size are they ? Did you have trouble getting the pattern to match? (nut sizes)

Well i have the american GSL-SE, which came with a special common bolt pattern, 4x114.3
Rims are a snap to find for this bolt pattern. THe wheels are 16x7, Konig Tuners. I just recenly installed an eibach pro kit, however it may not fit in the front. I may have to get new rims. They are about 2-3 mm away from rubbing the springs!!!
To get the center console off:
1) Pull the kobs for heater and blower off. just pull hard.
2) unscrew the bolts beneath them.
3) lift up the part around the shifter at the b]ase of the console. Reach underneath (if you can) and wiggle it side to side while gently but firmly pulling up. it is held on only by tabs.
If you can't reach through the shift boot place, then perhaps use a screw driver and go at it from the left and right sides.
4)There are two screws at the bottom of the plastic console. Unscrew them.
5) Pull out, the only thing left attaching it is a few tabs up by the vents at the top. pull gently but firmly, it'll come.
6) The backing of the heater and blower ***** are also screwed to the back, you may wish to unscrew those.
Hope that helps!

I didn't do the install myself(I knew someone that is very good in sound systems)
I'll copy/paste what I said in an other post:
Well my subs are 2 10' 400W peak(200 W RMS) Clarion. The amp that is powering them is 200W so each amp receives 100 watts. And let me tell you that having the subs right in back of you... you don't need more than 100 watts! On my HU I set my subs to -1 and it's enough! I can blast them up to +8 and when I do I feel that my car will explode lol But when played at a normal level, it is the sweetest bass you can have since the subs are right in back of you.. and you wondering if your ears hurt after a while.. they don't if you don't go to crazy.. IMO it's the best setup you can have! And yes the 10' fit perfectly
I don't know EXACTLY how the guy did it but he drilled some holes in the storage bin in back of the seats(about 11 inches big or something) and he put some wood in it also so that I wouldn't hear rattling. He didn't put that much because he didn't want to add too much weight but the way he did it it was perfect..

I'm just trying to work out WHERE those subs are ? Are they BEHIND the drivers seat or in the rear ? I just cant tell! My subs are 2x12 KICKERS, 400w running bridged from a 4 channel BOSS 800watt amp, I (When I complete this install) will have two splits in the drivers and passenger's doors. I'll have to watch the volume, wanna keep the roof on.
