Rx-7 Gx
Rx-7 Gx
I have a 1983 RX-7 GX It was manufactured in August of 1982.
Is this a common car or is it some kind of special edition with fewer of them made. If so I can get collector plates for it and get inexpensive insurance and not need to get it air cared.
I hope to get it running in the bext couple of weeks.
Thanks

The GX is the same as a GSL i believe. I don't know for sure, but as far as I know, the only special edition car in 83 was the LE. It was a limited edition car, hence the name. Does your car have disk rear brakes?
The 81 to 83 GX is in fact the same as the GSL sold in the US. I've owned three of them, and they do have the LSD and rear discs.
In 84 they changed the name to GSL to fall in line with the US version. Of course, the Canadian ones had the headlight sprayers. US versions did not, even on the GSL-SE.
The 81 did not have the GX logo on the B-pillar but it was the exact same car as the 82-83.

Remember we live in Canada. I have read about the GX before but not payed much attention to it. As far as I know, it is the Canadian equivelant to a GSL. I rarely see even canadian cars badged as GX's anyway. So i really don't know. To tell you the truth, thats the only time I ever heard of a GX.
I also had a GX before, has rear discs, LSD, power everything and sunroof. They were pretty popular here so it ain't worth as much as a GSL-SE. By the way, does anyone actually use those headlight sprayers, mine work but I've never used them.
Thanks

you are getting your housings re-coated?!?
Can you give more info about this, such as were, what kind of coating are you using, and how much does it cost?
I dont think chrome would work, dosent it need to have microscopic (sp?) holes in it for oil? there was a thread on this a long time ago...

They remove the chromium with chemicals and then dip it in the bath until it has a .005 surface.
I have to grind the edges so they don't extrude.
I will let yuo know the cost on tuesday April 6 after I pick them up.
I just went into the chromium place and asked what they could do for me. I had another one done last year for adapting a Mazda engine to a Wankel first configuration rotary with the housing sponning over the rotor. My problems were not the housing coating. The main difficulty I had was grounding the spinning housing to produce spark.
If Mazda incorporated microscopic holes for oil in their process I believe they would be worn away in the first 10,000 miles
The engine is still sitting in the corner of my shop.

The cost to re-chromium the housings is $75. to remove the chromium and $125 to apply a .005 finish or $400. for both.
