RX-4 13b motor in 1st gens

Which years will a rx-4 13b swap into.
Currently the motor is in my friends '81, but he totaled the car (had the back end come around on him on a mountain run and ended up *** end into the mountian)

Im just curious what 1st gens this motor will drop into

It will go into all first gens. You have to swap the oil pan to one off of a GSL-SE or custom make one. Much easier to just buy the pan from Racing Beat, pn 11831.

You also have to change the front engine mount or just slot the existing one. Again, Racing Beat sells the mount, pn 11832.

The exhaust is the only other item that you really need to deal with.

It's a very simple swap and should make the car even more fun.

felix: the first gens are actually not all the same. there are a lot of differences between the first and second series of the first gens..

the car is actually an 80, and not an 81. so the problem with swaping to a non 79-80 body is that the mounts are different. none of my emissions would fit, would have to redo all mounts to be able to hook the block up to a different tranny, etc...

it can be done, but a bit of work.

dyre: good to see that you are back and around again. i will talk to you more later, but i am actually going to see if i can straighten out the frame at a body shop, and get my current setup working again. if not, then the hunt for a new body will continue....

Yeah well he said 81, so I didn't bother putting that there.

If you need a body, I have an 82 that I'll sell cheap. Runs and drives, needs a headlight bucket though.

Yeah, Dan said you where going to try to fix it- Hope they can pull it straight-

Then again, we can probably find a 1st gen around here for uber-cheap and drop your motor in it-

Damn shame too.

Nice black 1980 sitting in a junk yard here. Very clean, automatic, sunroof, no seats, wheels, or front brake calipers though... Not much rust at all either... Too bad you're on the left coast.

where is he? and what type of condition are we talking?

pele, thanks, but a bit far for me. if i am going to look that far for a body, i might as well try to find one that is right hand drive. hehe. i have always thought that it would be cool to drive one of those.. you could really mess with the people in drive throughs..

That's why I said it was a damn shame... Maybe I'll snag it if it hasnt rusted out in a couple years. I wound the windows up and put a rag over the carb just in case. Turn it into a drag racer and leave the 85 set up for occasional autocross.

I saw a dude driving around in a rolls royce that was wrong side drive.. It was hillarious. Beautiful car though, and I told him so.

riffraff, I'm in Portland I've talked to you through email about some parts (harleytate74@hotmail.com). If you had a way to come and get the car, you can have it FREE!!!
I was just gunna send it to the junkyard anyway. I still have a shitload of stock parts too.
Let me know through email cause I hardly ever come to the board anymore.

P.S. good heads up Mike
