rusted rear disc brake 'dust cover'

I thought my wheels were hard to get off, with the rust they had, but I'm having no luck getting the 'dust cover' off....

I removed the wheels, brake caliper, and the 2 screws, but the next part doesn't come off. And the books don't show what the part really looks like. Is it a cover that fits over the part with the studs, or are the studs part of it? Isn't the same part as the disc?

Any ideas on how to get it loose? I've sprayed PB rust remover around area where the part meets the axle several times and tapped with a hammer, but maybe the PB just needs more time.

And for the other side, I'll need to get a screw extractor. Who the heck would put screws at a location like this anyway???

If I'm reading you correctly its all one piece you are looking at. Thats all part of the rotor. The 2 screws are there to hold it together while assembling, pointless if you ask me, but thats why they are there. So you're saying that the rotor is stuck on there and won't come off then? If you don't need to reuse it just smash it off with a hammer. If you do need to re use it then use a rubber mallet or something that won't damage it and bang it off. Oh and yes the PB will take some time on a larger area like that. Hope that helps, I'm pretty sure i read your post right.

the rear dust cover is a real bitch to get off...what I did was I jacked her up in my garage pulled all the brakes and **** off the rear end and took the sand blaster to it...primed everything and painted it black...thats the easiest way it takes along time to take that dust cover off...

Yes, the dust shield behind the rotor is a fair amount of work to remove. I believe he is talking about the rotor itself.
